Insect
What creature-an insect lay grim like death
I stare wishing its' lingering away
His tomb, stone cold, lungs no longer hold warm breath
To him his passing just another day
To leave him there would be grotesquely wrong
My friends use this bathroom-I aim to charm
In his tomb of tile I cannot prolong
A paper towel will do-without harm
But wait is this a spark of life I see
His movement is surely without meaning
He lives-My God! Can this miracle be
To save precious life while merely cleaning
But I suppose it's just a measly bug
Sweep--his life now under a bathroom rug
The Appalachian Trail
The ATC national central office is located in Harpers Ferry, WV
History of the Appalachian Trail adds meaning to one's hike
Excellent sources for background study are readily available
Acknowledge the Appalachian skyline
Possibilities seem endless
Preparation is the key to success
Although many do not prepare to the fullest extent
Let's pray the wilderness will not claim those who come unprepared
Appalachian Mountains have an annual rainfall comparable to some tropical rainforests
Carry protection from weather, like a jacket
Have on hand a knife; this will be one of your most valuable tools
If you are going to drink from a stream be sure to purify the water first
Animal bites, mostly come from dogs
Now you are ready
Thru-hiking is the ultimate goal, 2,175 miles
Reasons to thru hike vary
And include, spiritual, scientific, and scenic goals
I plan on hiking the Appalachian Trail
Long after I feel I'm ready
